Process

Envisioning
I design in Eras.
Every Era is inspired by a conversation I want to have with you, and the world. Unlike the usual approach designers take in which each piece in a collection follows an underlying material and visual theme, every piece in my collection is the child of a creative process that is solely its own.

Conscious Material Curation
Unmissable visual value.
I dive equally deeply into new advancements and old traditions in material construction to find materials that have the perfect blend of unmissable visual value, uncompromising comfort and minimal environmental impact.

Architecting
Unmissable visual value.
I work closely with my precious team of skilled craftsmen to bring the geometry of my footwear designs to life. Every little curve and angle is patiently perfected until each piece in the Era is ready to meet you.

Dialogue
Engaging in Conversations.
I want to know you. So when you choose a Disobedience design, you have the option of speaking to me so I can work with you to pick colours and shapes from our selection that best speak about you.

Construction on Request
14 days to craft.
We only begin to create your piece when you request for it. We take up to 14 days to craft your request. This helps us produce responsibly with the barest minimum of material waste.

A Relationship For Life
Repair or Restore
We teach you all you need to know about how to care for our creation in the comfort of your home. If you need our help to mend, repair or restore, we’ll always be just a phone call away.
What We Do
Materials with a voice of their own. Designed to Disappear
I wanted to design shoes that have a distinct design voice. I wanted people to recognize this voice from a mile away. And I wanted my designs to live for a lifetime, but nothing more.

The Signature of Disobedience
Our use of hand-crafted fabrics and hand-sculpted heels.
The skilled weavers who command the looms at our in-house studio as well those of our partner organisations, create textiles with the memorable character of abstract tapestry art. Our heels are unexpected and unforgettable, designed for those unafraid to make an entrance, wherever they go.
And while the memory of them will never fade, all the materials we use to create them are designed to disappear - materials that can biodegrade or be recycled or recirculated.

Kala cotton is indigenous to Kachchh. It is an organically farmed rain fed crop that has a high tolerance for both disease and pests. Farmers in the region don’t use any pesticides or chemical fertilisers. It forms a strong, resilient and stretchable fibre that is often also used in denim.

Used plastic is sorted and segregated based on its colour and quality. It is cleaned and cut into long strips and woven into durable textiles using an indigenous loom called the pit loom. Secondary plastic packaging and food wrappers are shredded, twisted into plastic yarn and then used as weft.

We handpick teak from vetted Timber merchants and regulated forests. We pick the most expressive sections of wood grains to bring unique character to every design. No two heels will ever have the same natural grains.

We work with the SS304 grade of steel. This food grade steel has high corrosion resistance and strength. Its malleability allows me to create my signature and unmissable heels, while its strength allows for the perfect comfort and steadiness. The best thing about these heels are that they are completely recyclable.

We work with the women of the underserved Irular Community and employ their abilities into our delicate threadwork and beadwork vision. Taking inspiration from traditional motifs and transitioning them for a global audience, our surface design adds that signature touch that you won’t find anywhere else.

Refined from the sap of the rubber tree, trees are not cut down or damaged during the process. Latex is also naturally antimicrobial and hypo-allergenic. Its open-cell structures permit constant airflow. Natural latex effortlessly bounces back once pressure is removed, allowing it to maintain its original shape over years of use.
